Jiankang Records (Volume 1 and 2)

Chronicle history book. Written by Xu Song of Tang Dynasty. 20 volumes. The account begins with the first year of Xingping in the Eastern Han Dynasty and ends with the third year of Chen Zhenming. It was named after the six dynasties recorded in which all had their capitals in Jiankang (now Nanjing). Based on the official history, it also collects old historical and geographical records, and records the political changes of the past dynasties and the deeds of military ministers in chronological order, as well as the historical sites of mountains and rivers. If you hear anything strange, please note it and describe it in detail separately. The citations are extensive, mostly outside official history. It records the deeds of Wu, Eastern Jin, Song, Qi, Liang and Chen Dynasties. Because all the six dynasties were in Jiankang, it was named. The Wu, Eastern Jin, Song, and Chen dynasties are recorded in chronological style, with biographies attached under the dates of death of the characters; the Qi and Liang dynasties are recorded in chronological style. In addition to the rise and fall of dynasties, the narrative also pays attention to the historical sites of the Six Dynasties. At the time of compilation, more than fifty kinds of classics from the early Tang Dynasty and before the Tang Dynasty were cited, but most of them are lost now. Therefore, most of the records are other than “official histories” and have certain reference value.
